Bold! Face! Names! Summer Lovin' Edition

OMG! Who would have ever thought that this Endless Summer would ever end?

Well, sun-bunnies, it has happened, and to commemorate the Summer of Our Lives, we have a special Bold Face Name issue.

Dreamy love bucket Kevin Spacey was seen bald as a cue ball in that new Superman movie. Who knew he could outdo K Pax!He freaked me out as Lex Luther, and only a strong shot of Diet Coke was able to revive me. That may have also been the heat, as irrepressable film maven Elnie Gillers and I were forced to go to the cinema about 4 times in as many days to escape the sweltering nastiness that is New York in July.

Also spotted on the silver screen was the disappearing/reappearing La Moustache! Oh la la, that moustache has won me over. It starred in the eponymous film and will soon be doing Shakespeare in the Park. Rumour also has it that Johnny Depp was edged out by La Moustache for a plum part in the film version of the life of Buckminster Fuller. What will that moustache be up to next? I'll keep you posted.

There seems to be a craze lately on the streets of Glasgow (and New York for that matter) for silly silly girls to be sporting leggings. I ask you, is this sane? The worst is when those sick fashion jokes start to sag and stretch, it's like when you were a little girl wearing tights and you would go to the bathroom and never quite manage to oull them back up sufficiently and they would be about 5 inches lower than they should be and you would be waddling like March of the Penguins. Is it an attempt to recapture lost youth? You be the judge!

Back on the market! Ding ding ding! yes ladies, it's true: swinging bachelor, fantasy football fanatic and academic Niall MacKenzie is back! Catch him while he's hot. If you're lucky he might even make you a delicious yellow curry with tofu. If you're really lucky he might show up at your wedding and take picture of his ass for you to find later. Cheers!

Buckle your seatbelts, Glaswegians (and other wegians). Notorious world-traveller Holly Laws has booked her flight to Glasgow for a holiday in January and the city as we know it will never be the same. Hmmm, that could be a good thing! her visit promises a week (I think) of beautiful, sunny, warm weather; friendly smiling faces, no dog shit in the streets and baked goods. Double bonus points if you catch the sarcasm there.

Special birthday preview: a small birdie (perhaps a nuthatch?) tells me that the special day is coming for man-about-town D. Quippoleum. He is to celebrate his birthday at the infamous Bar Warhol on Bath Street in Glasgow (extra bonus points if you have ever ridden past it on the bus and mocked it for a) its name or b) its clientele) well, Bar Warhol is to host a scene it won't soon forget: rock gods The Beat Trap and The Low Miffs are combining for a double bill that promises to be the unholiest of unholy unions. But, when is this tremendous event, you ask? September 11th, of course. And if you don't come the terrorists have already won.

Now, back to the matter at hand: summer lovin'! They came, they saw, they drank. That's right, the Freeman-Quipp wedding was not only a crazy bacchanalian booze-fest, it was also a chance for foreigners and Americans to break bread, discuss world issues and take pictures of each other with random regulars of Brattleboro bars. News on the wire is that nobody made it out unscathed, and we have the photos to prove it! When he wasn't sleeping in hallways or falling up stairs, Jonathan Cooke was singing the praises of Brattleboro and Newfane. Right back at ya, babe. Photos show that David Tamarkin and Elnie Gillers cuddled up at a certain after-hours boite. Do I smell romance?

Did somebody say 'romance'? That seems to be what Holly Laws and Elnie Gillers had in mind! Hot stuff! Just kidding, gals, but the photos don't lie! Various other shots show famous wig model Sean O'Connor and his girlfriend Sanna Sundin enjoying the party of a lifetime, don't let that wig slip, Sean!

Well, as it always does, the party must end... but no fear, we shall return soon with more- yes, even more- BOLD FACE NAMES!

Aloha

Sick! I am sick. I mean I have a cold and perhaps a sinus infection. I missed work on Friday (the classic lame day to take off) and may have to miss Monday as well if things go as they are now. It is grey and rainy outside and I am sick indoors and it feels like it could be Christmas time! So much so that Daniel and I have been planning our Christmas feast and stockings. Daniel says he will get me a Christmas stockign with stockings in it. I would prefer stalkings. Ha! Does that even make sense?

Well, the hubz is out at the video store right now, and will soon be coming back with 3 films (classics, I am sure. Probably Bergman and Fassbinder) and some LemSip for my weary self.

In other news, despite my illness, I made muffins! Yesterday the wintery vibe of having a cold made me want to bake. And bake I did! 12 apple cinnamon muffins. Mmm.

Anyway, there are things that I want to write about because I have had some interesting moments, but I don't really have the energy right now. So, keep your chins up and I will post again soon.

Ciao

Maniac

Wow, working life, lemme tell youse. It's a hard slog. I am somewhat like the main character in Flashdance (props to anyone who can tell me her name): I get home after a hard day welding, only to dance at a strip joint until my feet bleed by night. Except with me it's more like, I work about 2, maybe 3 full hours a day. The rest of the time I am trying to look busy while discreetly (I hope) checking my email and reading the newspaper. Then I get home and eat cheese until my feet bleed. Eeeew. Sorry, bad visual... but you get the point: life is rough.

AT LEAST I don't have to go through the humiliation of auditioning for a well-known ballet company, only to mess up and have to start again, praying that they won't toss me out on my tuckus! Then again, we all know she triumphs in the end, which may be more than we can say for me, who knows what will happen!

OMG, COMING SOON... another issue of BOLD-FACED NAMES I figure I have been back in the country long enough to accumulate some Hot Gossip... either that or I will make it a special 'mem'ries' edition.

Until then, me hearties!
